Mary Foote announced in February that she would be stepping down as the executive director of the Non-Profit Theatre on after 20 years of dedicated service.

After a vigorous process to find someone who can lead the Colonial as a multi-theatre arts center, Kenneth L. Metzner emerged as the clear choice.

Metzner studied international relations, law and languages at Georgetown University, the London School of Economics and the University of Virginia. He then spent time as a New York city Lawyer, and eventually became general council for the fashion retailer Saks Fifth Avenue. In addition to his legal accomplishments, Metzner also gained an interest in the arts, becoming the founding executive director of Philadelphia’s acclaimed Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers and CHI Movement arts center.

Metzner also has served as President of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Cultural Fund, which awards more general operating grants for arts and culture than any funder in Pennsylvania, and as a Board Member of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, the region’s leading arts advocacy organization. In addition to being a lawyer and arts activist, Metzner is a Spanish-speaking, ordained Interfaith Minister who has been a frequent guest speaker at numerous universities and arts service organizations.

Mentzer says hes looking forward to working with the staff at the Colonial to continue to inspire people of all backgrounds through encounters with eclectic film and performances.
