Browns Cow Celebrity Scoop

This past Thursday an event happened for the first time and it combined hot and cold into a whirlwind of enjoyment! From 6-10pm people came and socialized with the fire department, had their ice cream scooped by them, and even had the opportunity to check out one of their trucks. The fire department received half of the proceeds from the night, and firefighter Bryan Meadows was thankful to be part of the community for this special event. Hares Hill Bridge is Open!

The 151-year old bridge in Phoenixville is open for travel once again. The bridge on Hares Hill Road was closed in June in order to complete an improvement project, and now boasts reconstructed wingwalls and stone masonry. Additionally, a plaque commemorating this 2018 rehabilitation was included as well. This bridge is listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places due to it being the last surviving example of Thomas William Moseley’s patented “Wrought Iron Girder Bridge.” With its recent opening, the 4900 people who used to drive over it everyday can get their commutes back on track! Thank you to PennDOT and J.D. Eckman Inc., who restored this historic bridge!

Coaching Boys Into Men: Phoenixville Pledge Against Domestic Violence

On Friday, August 24th, The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County will honor the young men of the phoenixville Phantoms who have signed a pledge against domestic Violence. The Pledge is about denouncing violence in their community and collectively coming up with non-violent solutions to conflicts that they experience in their everyday lives. The pledge is a part of the "Coaching Boys into Men" initiative, a non-profit that strives to prevent violence at the community level. The pre-game dedication ceremony will be held on Friday, August 24th at 6:30 PM, before the 7 pm game against Great Valley.

PASD Annual Community Cookout & Football Game

Come spend time with the Phoenixville Community for a night of fun and food! The Phoenixville Area School District will be hosting its annual community cookout on Thursday, August 30th! This year it’s happening at the high school’s campus, next to Washington field. Burgers and hot dogs will be served from 5-7, followed by the Phantoms hosting Martin Luther King High School in their second game of the season. After that, the team will celebrate military night, where veterans, active duty soldiers, and local emergency service personnel will all be honored. Citadel Country Spirit USA, a three-day country music spectacular, is looking to be the Mid-Atlantic region’s foremost annual country music festival and it’s happening in Chester County. The Phoenixville Jaycees are just one of the great organizations to get involved with!The Phoenixville Jaycees were chartered in 1952 and are the second oldest chapter in the state of Pennsylvania. Attempts to charter the chapter in 1942 and 1944 failed because its members were drafted during World War II. The third time proved to be a charm thanks to the efforts of Winn Cook, who submitted the charter each time and who went on to become the 5th President of the Pennsylvania Jaycees. Since receiving its charter, the Phoenixville Jaycees have hosted the Dogwood Festival, Parade and Pageant as well as contributing to hundreds of events hosted by other service clubs in Phoenixville. PMYC is excited to announce its inaugural season of its expanded Flag Football program and registration for the Fall 2018 season is now open! Flag football has caught fire nationwide and is the fastest growing sport for the American youth. The new league is coed, free to play and is open to grades K-12 with separate divisions by grades, so there’s plenty of room for everyone to come out and play. All games are played on Friday night between September and October and there’s no travel, all games played at PMYC in Phoenixville. Mary Foote Farewell Ceremony

There’s been a new changing of the guard at the Colonial Theatre, and stepping down is a woman who has done much for the arts in Phoenixville. Mary Foote, the Executive Director of the Colonial, who was an integral part of bringing the non-profit theatre back to its former glory, has stepped down from her position after 20 years and a lifetime of experiences. Phoenixville’s Camp Unforgettable put on its end of the season talent show, showcasing some of their best and brightest! Camp Unforgettable, a local summer camp held at Barkley Elementary, has been putting on a talent show for the past few years, to let the young campers display their abilities in a room full of family, friends, and loved ones. Talents ranged from dancing, to hula hoop routines, and even animal calls.
