I hope you’re ready for a show, cause this local theatre is ready to perform! Founded in 2010, Firebird Theatre is a non-profit dedicated to showcasing the talents of young performers, from ages ranging from elementary school to college. They perform a slew of shows during the summer months, and they have already done productions of Winnie the Pooh and The Addams Family. The current show is Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, a classic tale about a girl named Belle and her relationship with a cursed man and his enchanted servants. The Latino/Hispanic Festival returns for its 7th year this weekend, July 21st, and the community is brimming with excitement. Hosted by The Alianzas De Phoenixville, the event is one of the largest in the area that celebrates Latino and Hispanic heritage. The Manavon Elementary School and Early Learning Center is home to numerous summer activities, and one in particular aims to keep kids S.A.F.E. Phoenixville Area Positive Alternatives, or PAPA, uses the school to host their summer day camp, a six-week program called S.A.F.E, Summer Activities For Enrichment. It’s July, so that means it’s time for Blobfest, Phoenixville’s annual celebration of the 1958 cult classic. To help you get ready for all things blob, we compiled some trivia about the movie, facts that will surely make you go “hmmm?” The film was originally titled as “the Glob” but was changed when it was discovered that Cartoonist Walt Kelly had already used the title. As the Blob claims its victims, it turns red. The look and feel of the blob was created with a mixture of silicone and red dye. There’s a special event happening at Petrucci’s in Phoenixville, and it’s supporting a great cause! The Phoenixville Fire Department is having a fundraiser on the 12th, from 6-9pm. Petrucci’s will donate 20% of the sales made during that time. At the fundraiser, you can meet your local firefighters and get valuable safety information. A tour group is offering a chance to experience the best of Downtown Phoenixville, and you’re invited! Taste and See Tour is offering a tour of historic downtown Phoenxville. The tour last four three hours and is a leisurely walking visit of Bridge street that includes stops at 10 businesses in the area. Tours run from now until Septmeber. The Springer Studio is hosting a summer camp for students of all ages this summer. The Camp has been in session for some time now, and the students are ready to showcase their talents to audiences. Mary Poppins Jr begins tonight, but its only the beginning for the summer performances with the Springer studio, as high school students will be performing Les Misérables. The camp for that show begins on July 9th, with the Performances being held July 26th through the 28th. Phoenixville Hospital Thrift Store donated $50,000 to local charities recently. Charities included: Baby’s Breath, The Phoenixville Hospital Cancer Center, Mom’s House, PACS, Orion Communities, The Phoenixville Health Foundation, and many more! Staffed by volunteers in its 43 year history, over $896,000 has been donated! Located at 238 Church Street, this shop is certainly a light in the Phoenixville Community!
